CALCIUMS

Spelling error?  Not at all.  Carey Reams identified almost a quarter of a million different calcium compounds.  He was able to divide those into seven basic groups and consciously decided to use the mis-spelled "calciums" as a means to draw attention to the wide variety.

RBTI consultants are quick to point out that whereas an alkalizing calcium such as calcium hydroxide can push the urinary pH up, an acidifying calcium such as calcium lactate can just as easily drive the pH down.  On the other hand, many calciums, such as gluconate or citrate, are considered neutral in that they provide the needed mineral without strongly affecting the urine pH.

The seasoned RBTI consultant understands that "driving" pH values is not the name of the game.  This "driving" almost reduces RBTI to the level of drugs, which are designed to force the body into one state or another.  Conversely, RBTI is about feeding the body those foods that can build it to the highest state of health.

The heart of the problem is that modern foods are so calcium-deficient that the mineral reserve of the body falls so low that it cannot easily maintain homeostatis.  This was a key reason for Reams' strong stand that we "should eat the widest possible diet".  His agricultural knowledge allowed him to see that a wider diet would bring a more balanced array of "calciums" into us.  The other part of that suggestion was that he knew a wider diet would bring more of the 83 other needed minerals into our system.  Although the preferred method of obtaining a sufficient mineral assay is to eat higher Brix foods, most people find they need to take calcium supplements.

It is impossible to overstate the need for calcium, but as the RBTI consultant knows, it is important to make sure the calcium being used does not force the body into an adverse pH situation.  Medically-oriented physiology textbooks detail the many ways that calcium is used by the body to neutralize and dispose of harmful acidic products or byproducts.  The pH portion of the RBTI equation allows one to estimate the mineral reserve (mostly calcium) and get a handle on the reserve energy.  Any good consultant should be able to help you discover the "right" calcium based on your personal analysis.
